The scope of the project was to redesign the exterior lighting of the campus clock tower. One of the driving forces of the project was to cut down on maintenance costs. Before the redesign, the university had to hire a chimney sweep to belay down the face of the spire to change the lamps.
Silverman & Light provided complete lighting design for the exterior lighting of the clock tower. Our design included grade mounted flood lighting and area lighting tilt down pole mount lights to illuminate the spire and a light in the beacon. In our design the poles on the 10th floor tilt down for easy relamping at the 10th floor level. The new beacon light is an induction lamp with a 100,000 hour lamp life, which won’t need to be relamped for quite some time.
