Lorey I. Lokey Graduate School of Business
Mills College Campus- Oakland, CA

Silverman & Light provide complete Electrical Engineering and Lighting Design for this new cutting-edge Graduate School of Business building.  It is the home of the first MBA program designed for women in the West and was completed in August 2009.

The 2-story, 28,735-square-foot structure is designed to encourage the gathering of students. It includes a multi-function conference room for campus events, speakers and students. It also houses the Center for Socially Responsible Business.

The LEED Gold certified building provides a state of the art, dynamic and personal learning environment which integrates innovative technology and sustainability strategies. The building is organized along a deep indoor/outdoor porch covered by a living roof. Planted with drought tolerant succulents, the living roof offers the benefits of solar shading, water conservation and showcases the academic focus on social responsibility. Inside, the porch becomes the entry lobby and main circulation space connecting a series of informal break-out spaces, flexible teaching spaces, with the gathering hall. The second-floor consists of faculty and MBA suites overlooking the living roof which provide offices, meeting rooms and support services. The visible integration of sustainable solutions educates the occupants and results in measurable energy and cost saving benefits
