Kaiser Permanente’s new Oakland Medical Center consists of a state-of-the-art 680,000 SF flagship replacement hospital, a central utility plant (CUP), a 275,000 SF Specialty Medical Office Building (SMOB), and two above- and below-grade parking garages. Silverman & Light provided complete electrical engineering and lighting design for the new medical center.
The hospital design is a twelve-story tower, including a three-story podium and an eight-story bed tower. The hospital electrical distribution design utilizes a vertical 12kV medium voltage design that provides greater flexibility and redundancy for the facility.
The 43,000 SF Central Utility Plant (CUP) houses the emergency diesel generators and mechanical equipment used to support the medical center campus.
